COVID-19 UPDATE: July 23, 2020 - Municipal Facilities, Services and Program Information

The Municipality of Greenstone continues to implement measures with the health and safety of all residents in mind. 

 Please remember that this is a fluid situation and updates will be provided as they become available.

The Municipal Administration Office in Geraldton and the Beardmore, Longlac and Nakina Ward offices are open to the public.  Please CLICK HERE for details on safety procedures that must be followed when visiting a Municipal office.  In addition to the previously posted safety procedures, beginning Friday, July 24, 2020 at 12:01 AM, it is mandatory that people in the general public wear a mask or other form of face covering in indoor public spaces as required by the Medical Officer of Health. This mandate includes the public areas of all Municipal facilities.  Please click here for details.  Exemptions include children under two years old, people who cannot wear a mask or face covering for medical reasons, those who require accommodation in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and others as listed in the organization’s required mask policy. Proof of exemption is not required.

  • Senior's Programming provided by the Municipality in Geraldton is limited to transportation services for grocery shopping and medication pickups from the pharmacy and is limited to one person at a time.
  • Senior's Transportation services in Longlac are limited to grocery shopping and medication pickups from the pharmacy and are limited to one person at a time. The Medical Transportation services provided by the Municipality to local Seniors continues to run at this time.
  • Playgrounds will be opening as soon as appropriate signage has been received and installed.  The estimated opening is the week of July 27, 2020. When accessing playgrounds upon their reopening, please be advised of the following:
    • Playground structures and any other equipment  in the area, including benches, will not be disinfected.
    • Use is at the risk of the user, or where applicable, the guardian of the user.
    • Do not enter the area if sick.
    • Clean hands before and after entering the area and/or using any equipment.
    • Social distancing guidelines must be followed (2 meters apart). 
    • Do not enter if area appears crowded or social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • All Municipal recreation centres remain closed.
  • The Geraldton Family Resource Centre remains open.
  • All Municipal Landfill sites remain open and regular curbside garbage collection is ongoing.

Daycare Centres

The government has announced that nearly all businesses and public spaces will reopen in Stage 3 of the province’s reopening framework with the proper health protocols in place.  We are happy to share that effective July 27, 2020, the Geraldton Day Care Centre will be able to move from the current cohort size of 10 to a cohort size of 15 children.  This change means that the Centre is able to return to approximately 2/3 of our licensed capacity. For more information please click on the link below or call Tatum Blanchette, Day Care Manager, (807) 854-1744.  Registration for your child(ren) must be done online and the application to do so is also available in the link.

Please be advised that screening protocols for children and staff remain in place and only children and staff are permitted to enter the Centre.  

All other childcare centres and programs remain closed at this time. 

Municipal Campgrounds

  • Poplar Lodge Park, Riverview Campground, and Cordingley Lake Campground are now open to all campers.  
  • MacLeod Provincial Park is open to all users.
  • **Please be advised that Social Distancing and all Provincial mandates are in effect at all campgrounds.  Please be advised that shower facilities are closed at all campgrounds.  Please adhere to all signage and protocols put it place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
