Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Municipality seasonally operates Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depots during July & August at the Geraldton and Longlac landfill sites, as permitted by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The depots will be accessible during regular landfill operating hours between July 10 and September 9, 2017.

Hazardous materials that are not accepted at the depots can be brought to the HHW Events scheduled for SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2017.  The events are hosted in partnership with GFL Environmental Inc. for proper handling of waste materials.   On this date, GFL will set up at the Longlac Landfill during the morning, and during the afternoon at the Geraldton Landfill.  All hazardous waste materials will be removed from the depots on September 9, and the depots will remain closed until next year.

The following designated materials will be accepted at the HHW depots, providing that they are identifiable (product labels are intact):

  • Antifreeze, and the containers in which they are contained
  • Fertilizers, and the containers in which they are contained
  • Oil filters - after they have been used for their intended purpose
  • Oil containers that have a capacity of 30 litres or less and that were manufactured and used for the purpose of containing lubricating oil
