Landfill Information

The Municipality currently operates 4 municipal sanitary landfills (for the communities of Beardmore, Geraldton, Longlac and Nakina) under the regulating authority of the Ministry of the Environment.

Note: Landfill hours are subject to change in the event of a Statutory Holiday.  Access outside of regular hours of operation may be granted; additional charges apply as defined in the landfill tipping fees schedule.


                 Winter - Monday and Friday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

                 Summer - Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

                 (Summer operations begin the Wednesday following the May long weekend until the Wednesday

                  after the September long weekend.)

Geraldton : Effective as of September 3, 2014

                  Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday  12:00 Noon to 5:00 pm

*Household Waste only - meaning waste that is collectable as part of weekly collection service, in accordance with By-Law 09-48.  Scrap metal, appliances, electronic waste, and tires are acceptable in the designated areas.  All other waste is termed "Construction Waste" and remains restricted from the landfill at this time. 

Longlac :     Effective as of September 3, 2014

                    Monday, Wednesday, Friday – 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

                    Saturday – 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.       

Nakina :     Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday – 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.


Household waste is accepted at all of the 4 landfill sites in the Municipality.   Restrictions apply according to the Certificate of Approval issued by the Ministry of the Environment.  Contact the Public Services Department to confirm eligibility of other acceptable materials at 854-1100.


Fridges and other appliances containing refrigerant materials will not be accepted at any municipal sanitary landfill (Beardmore, Geraldton, Longlac and Nakina) unless 1) tagged by a licensed technician and certified Freon-free, or 2) tagged with a "Freon-Free" sticker.  These stickers are available at Ward offices for a fee of $50.00 plus applicable taxes.
