Restaurant Temporary Patio Program

At the July 13, 2020 Regular Meeting of Council, Council enacted By-Law 20-44, a Temporary Patio Program to support local restaurants by providing flexibility to restaurant owners while at the same time ensuring safety standards and measures remain in place.

Due to impacts experienced by the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic restaurants have been limited to take out services only since the middle of March 2020.  As restrictions on restaurant operations are easing, the operational aspects of restaurants are being impacted by safety measures required to address such matters as physical distancing. As this has resulted in a reduced patron capacity for restaurants, the Temporary Patio Program is intended to support the local restaurant economy and is intended to be easy to navigate while at the same time ensuring safety standards and measures remain in place. The framework and operating process of the program will run from Jul 13 to Dec 31, 2020.  There are no fees for the program application process.

The intent of the Program provides for the requirements for site inspections, accessibility, building and fire safety measures, public health remain the same.  Staff can work with businesses to complete the Patio Program process with an anticipated turnaround time for approval of 3 business days.
