SEWER BLOCKAGE, BACKUPS, AND BACKFLOW PREVENTION
If you think you have a blocked sewer lateral (the underground pipe that connects your home to the main sewer line), contact the Public Works Department. We will determine if the blockage is in the public mainline that serves the area as a first step. If the blockage is in your lateral (coming from your home), you will be responsible for repair costs.
Prevention tips
Don't Plug the System!
Remember the 3 Ps! Only poop, pee or (toilet) paper should be flushed – Do not flush grease or wipes that are labelled flushable. Watch this I Don't Flush video about preventing sewer problems and learn more about how your habits are important in keeping our sewers operational.
Only Sewer Lines Should Be Connected to the System!
Disconnecting sump pumps and exterior downspouts - It is important to disconnect sump pumps from the sanitary sewer system and to disconnect downspouts from your eaves to help direct water where it should go. The more water that requires treatment, the higher the cost of the service. Contact us for assistance with directing drainage properly.
