The Municipality of Greenstone owns five water treatment facilities and four wastewater treatment facilities, with infrastructure in the communities of Beardmore, Caramat, Geraldton, Longlac and Nakina. These treatment systems are operated and maintained by Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), whose operators maintain a Drinking Water Operating License.
WATER and WASTEWATER FINANCIAL PLANS
Water and Wastewater Financial Plans outline the Municipality of Greenstone's financial position concerning water and wastewater infrastructure. They provide information on how we plan to maintain our municipal water and wastewater systems and prepare for necessary infrastructure improvements. These plans fulfill requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Awareness programs and incentives
Treating wastewater is expensive. To educate the public on the importance of water quality in sewer systems, OCWA partnered with the Clean Water Foundation (CWF) to launch the I Don't Flush awareness campaign.
It is illegal for sump pumps to discharge into the Municipal sewer system because this directly contributes to sewage bypassing. If you are not sure how your plumbing is connected, we can provide an inspection and advise you on how to properly direct stormwater away from your home. Contact us if you wish to book an inspection.
The Municipality provides the following financial assistance programs to homeowners:
Sewer backflow prevention GRANT PROGRAM
As an incentive to install sewer backflow prevention valves in residential buildings, the Municipality offers a grant of up to $1,000 to offset material and labour costs. Contact us for more information about the Sewer Water Alleviation Program.
Septic PUMPING GRANT Program (effective 2024)
The Municipality offers rural residents a grant for septic tank maintenance. Qualifying residential properties may receive a grant of up to $200.00 once every three calendar years, until Residential Program end date of December 31, 2029 . Qualifying commercial properties may receive a grant of up to $1,500 annually, until Commercial Program end date of December 31, 2024. View the Septic Pumping Grant Program Policy and Application Form for details.
Applications are also available at the Municipal Administration Office and all Ward Offices. Supporting documentation (proof of service by a contractor) must be submitted.
