Each year the Province of Ontario accepts nominations from Municipalities for the Ontario Senior of the Year Award. This award recognizes individuals over the age of 65 who enriches the social, cultural or civic life of the community. Up to 20 individuals are recognized each year.

At the April 22, 2024 Regular Meeting of Council, Council directed that Mrs. Dorene Boulanger be nominated by the Municipality of Greenstone for the Ontario Senior of the Year Award. Councillor Pietsch brought forward the suggestion of the nomination and it was unanimously approved by Council.

Dorene Boulanger has dedicated countless hours to various organizations and events in Greenstone throughout the years. Among her many contributions to our Municipality are being a member of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobilers Board, the Geraldton District Hospital Board (served Chair of the Board), and she currently sits on the Greenstone Library Board.

The award was presented to Dorene by Mayor Jamie McPherson on July 1, 2024 at the Canada Day Celebrations in the Nakina Ward.

Congratulations Dorene Boulanger, and thank you!
