The Municipality of Greenstone Council wishes to offer the opportunity for two students (1 from GCHS and 1 from ESCJ) to sit on the Council as representatives of the youth in the Municipality of Greenstone. This will be a unique leadership and learning opportunity. The successful students will have the opportunity to learn: how the municipal level of government works, how citizens are represented, how decisions are made, how budget is distributed across the municipality, how priorities are established and many other important components of local governance. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to represent the voice of Greenstone Youth at the Council table.

Applications should be received by the Clerk at the Greenstone Administration Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024. A committee will be established who will review applicants and create a short list of individuals to be brought to a student vote at the High School attended. The applicant with the most votes from the student body will be the successful candidate. |
Duties and Responsibilities |
The duties and responsibilities of successful applicants as per Student Councillor Policy 16-246 include joining Council at the Greenstone Administration Office for all open Regular Council evening meetings among other duties. As non-voting members, the Student Councillors will offer a youth perspective and opinion on issues of interest or concern to the local youth population and will report back to youth in general while conforming to the Code of Conduct and acting in accordance with the Procedure By-law as required by Members. |

Will training be provided? The Clerk will provide Student Councillor Orientation training to the successful candidates. What is the time commitment? Meetings are on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. except for December and January which only have one meeting per month. Where are the meetings located? Council Meetings are held in Council Chambers at the Greenstone Administration Office at 1800 Main Street in Geraldton Will the candidate be able to vote? No, this is a non-voting position. Each Student Councillor will have to opportunity to offer a point of view to other Council members during discussion before a vote is taken. Where can I get more information?
